Course Overview:

Elementary PE 2 helps young learners establish a basic understanding of health and fitness. Students focus on health-related fitness and learn how to become more fit and healthy. Topics of study include warm-up and cool down, water safety, goal setting, nutrition, muscle strength and flexibility. In addition, students learn age-appropriate motor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills. Students are required to participate in regular physical activity.

Exercise Requirements:

This course is online. The exercise is not!

Activity Requirements

For this course you need:

  • 14 weeks of physical activity each semester
  • 120 minutes of physical activity each week and/or 16,000 steps a week
  • Exercise at least four days a week

Activity Log

  • Write the activities you do on your activity log.
  • Use a new log each week.
  • Submit your log every week. Late logs may not get full credit!
  • A parent verification form is due at the end of each unit.u

  • Choose activities you enjoy.
  • Practice your unit skills.
  • Play games and activities listed on the unit skills pages.
  • Try new things.
  • If using a pedometer, try to reach 4,000 steps a day or 16,000 a week.

Skills

In most units you will practice skills. Examples of skills include jumping, kicking, and throwing. You will learn the skills in the first week of a unit. You should practice the skills every week. The last week of a unit you will show off your skills.

You can show your skills in three ways:

  • In person with a parent or supervisor
  • In person with a teacher
  • By video to the teacher

Ask your teacher which way he/she prefers.

Activity Recommendations

The requirements above show the minimum activity need to do for this class. However, it is recommended that you do more! Below are the recommendations for kids.

  • Do one hour of physical activity a day
  • Get 10,000 steps a day
  • Exercise every day of the week
